For this recipe, you will need:

How to Make Homemade Lip Gloss

In a small bowl, combine the following amounts:

  • 2 Tablespoons of grated beeswax
  • 3 tablespoons of shea butter
  • 2 Tablespoons of coconut oil
  • 2 drops of vanilla essential oil

Using a grater, shed the beeswax. You will need 2 tablespoons of this grated beeswax

Shea Butter used to make Homemade Lip Gloss

In a microwave safe dish, heat the coconut oil, the beeswax, and the shea butter down to a liquid form (a minute or less usually). Then, gently mix the ingredients together and add a couple drops of vanilla essential oil. The amount of essential oil and the scent of the oil you use is up to you! Pick a scent you love because you’re going to love this lip gloss. Your melted mixture will look like this:

Next, pour the melted mixture into a small container. The melted lip gloss will become solid within 10 minutes! Here you can see it hardening inside the glass jar:

This lip gloss goes on perfectly clear and has LOTS of shine! The shea butter is nourishing, the coconut oil is moisturizing, and the beeswax is healing. Who knew lip gloss could be so healthy for your lips? Wear it over lipstick or alone.

  1. This will be fun to make. I have been looking at a lot of homemade lip balms. Just one thing. Shea butter could be a serious problem for anyone with nut allergies. BE AWARE!!!!
    Thanks for posting this. I will try it minus the shea butter. I have found an un-petroleum jelly to mix with the other ingredients that I am going to try.

    What an amazing post, thank you for sharing it! 🙂 I am planning to make these for Christmas to put into my family’s stockings. I do have two questions? For the coconut oil I am not sure which one to use. The store that I shop at had two different types. One is for cooking and the other can be used in the hair or on the body but both are edible. Which one would you recommend? The second question would be how long from the day that it is made does it last for?
