How to Make a Yarn Pom Pom
Written and photographed by Meredith of Wait ‘Till Your Father Gets Home
I’m so happy to be back with all of you today to share a simple and cheerful project for Spring. I’ve been working on adding some more decor and color to my craft room and this was the perfect addition.
To make your own, you’ll need a few things…
a couple skeins of yarn {choose some fun Spring colors}
wooden skewers
jute twine
glass jar
scissors
hot glue gun/glue sticks
Now, before we get ahead of ourselves, you’ve got a lot of pom poms to make! There are some cool pom makers out there, that I’m pretty sure you can find for about $10 or less at a craft store. I make my poms the old fashioned way, by wrapping them around my hand.
1-choose a couple of colors you’ll be using
2-wrap around your palm about 75 times, not too loose, not too tight
3-leave a longer piece to wrap around the entire chunk once you remove it from your hand
4- tie the long piece around the middle of the entire pom
5- cut the loops from both ends of the pom
6- now you’ve got your “pom” but it needs a hair cut
7- trim the yarn pom so that it’s not as shaggy
8- admire your handiwork and keep making poms til you’ve got enough for a bouquet
Once I had a bunch of poms made, I attached the wooden skewers to each pom with a dab of hot glue. I then arranged them in a repurposed glass jar that I wrapped in jute twine and a bit of yellow yarn at the rim.
I love having this arrangement on my desk. It’s perfect for Spring and brings in some more color to my craft room.
Love that you love this :o) Thanks for having me today friend!!
