Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe for Kids

The other day my kids and I stumbled upon the perfect chocolate chip cookie recipe for kids! This particular recipe does not include eggs, so letting the kids do a “taste test” of the cookie dough was perfectly acceptable! Do you know what the secret ingredient is? It’s sweet, sticky, and SO much fun for kids to use in the kitchen.

As I mentioned, we found this recipe. Meaning, I can’t take credit for the yumminess! We discovered the recipe in a 1992 Mrs. Field’s Cookie Book. It’s actually a cook book that my mom passed down to me. Even though the book shows its age, there are still lots and lots of fun pictures of decadent cookies inside. I let Stella and Mitch flip through the book and pick a recipe for us to make. It just so happens that they picked out the recipe called Kids Bake ‘Em Cookies! How perfect is that? Mrs. Field’s nailed it with this kid friendly recipe. So, the next day we headed to the store to buy our ingredients.

Get this, instead of eggs, this recipe calls for HONEY!
That is great news for little kids that love to eat cookie dough
(ok, and the moms that love to eat cookie dough —hand is raised—)

Here is what you will need:

1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/8 tsp. salt
1/2 cup salted butter, softened
1/4 cup white sugar
1/2 cup honey
1 cup (6 oz) semisweet chocolate chips

We were able to make about 2 dozen cookies with this recipe.

I split the entire recipe in half and let Stella and Mitch make their own batch in the kitchen. Note: 2 and 3 year olds like their OWN bowl to work with, so this prevented lots and LOTS of bickering!

Preheat your oven to 300 degrees F.
Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt with a whisk and set it aside (you can see Stella and Mitch above)
In another bowl, blend the butter, sugar, and honey!

Add the flour mixture and chocolate chips and blend at a low speed just until combined (don’t over mix!)
This is where preparing a “kid-friendly” recipe really becomes beneficial. Do your kids ever do this?

She licked every last ounce of cookie dough off! That’s my girl!!
Rest assured, there are no raw eggs, so no need to worry about that:)

Simply drop the dough by rounded teaspoonfuls onto an ungreased cookie sheet about 1 1/2 inches apart and let them bake for about 18-20 minutes.

There you have it! Kids Bake ‘Em Cookies!

  1. That sounds really good! I’ve never tried substituting honey for eggs. That’s a really good idea.
